Can a laser damage a security camera?

A common laser pointer will most likely not damage a security camera. Lasers are beams of sunshine, which produce heat. If a laser makes sustained contact with delicate materials corresponding to a cam sensor, it causes physical damage. Average laser pointers cannot disarm the sensor.
